The year was 1991,  I was working for my father, Said Tweel, in his grocery store (S.A. Tweel Grocery) at 269 University Avenue. I had a great interest in Health & Fitness as well as the clothing and accessories that came along with it!  After asking, my father gave me a small space in his store where I could sell workout clothing and nutritional supplements. I had a small amount of money that I had earned that I used to purchase and build up my stock and was able to import product from the USA and across Canada!

After almost 2 years, things were going quite well! Our family had a location down the street at 299 University Ave which has become available for rent is where my father asked me if I would be interested in opening a store in that location! Well; April 1, 1993 Island Activewear was created! At the age of 25, I had started my career as a self-employed entrepreneur in the retail clothing business and never looked back! With a small loan cosigned by my father, I had built my business into one of Atlantic Canada's trendiest fitness boutiques! 

Around the year 2000, I found myself wanting to take Island Activewear to the next level, that's when the transformation from fitness to fashion had started! We brought in many new looks from designers such as FUBU, ECKO and many more! We had hit the wave of Urban Fashion. It was BIG.  Along with that, we started carrying Surf Skate brands like Quiksilver, Billabong and more as well! We also introduced Silver, Mavi and Guess! 

In 2006, we wanted to take Island Activewear to the next level!  This new direction has lead us to discover premium denim brands and labels that have exclusive and limited distribution! Brands like Diesel, G-Star, True Religion, Hudson, Fidelity, Scotch & Soda, Robert Graham, John Varvatos and Armani Jeans! We also Carry Seasonal Brands as well such as the world famous Canada Goose, Parajumpers and more! Along with many more trending brands we have again evolved into one of Atlantic Canada's cutting-edge stores for both men and women.
